Mark’s five best burgers

You don’t hear a lot about my husband on this blog. So let me introduce him to you. He is generally oblivious to messes or small projects that need attention but loves to surprise me with completing large projects while I’m away. He’s a great dad who loves to play with the kids but is easily frustrated when they are being bratty. He is obsessed with football, which he coaches; history, which he teaches; and hamburgers. Yep, hamburgers. He eats them often (really often) and with quite the critical eye. He has been compiling a list of the best burgers for a...

One step closer to employment

One step closer to employment

Mark graduated from college on Sunday — sort of. He participated in commencement, but he has to take one more Spanish course before they’ll send his degree. His teacher licensing program starts in three weeks, and he’ll finish a year from August. We had a nice celebration on Sunday, with about 20 people coming over for lunch. I think Mark was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. We made way too much food though. Anyone want to stop by for some salad and cake?? The two-hour ceremony was at 3. My sister played with Grace outside for most of it...

To do: go on a date

February 26, 2008

Going out on a traditional date is not going to happen any time soon but I did have two dates of sorts yesterday. I took Grace to the co-op (Mississippi Market on Dale). She got to push her own little Gracie-sized cart. I let her buy some things she asked for, which I don’t usually do. She wanted a bouquet for me and Mark, a plant for Connor and Clifford cereal and a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream cone for herself. After checking out, we sat and ate that at the tables they have in a tiny cafe area....

To do: Get family portraits

Check! This one has been on the list for about three months. We were going to do our first family portrait and a 3-year portrait for Grace when she turned 3. Well, we finally got them taken in December. I made the appointment for 10 a.m. and early this week started to wonder if that was wise. But we made it there in time despite Mark being unable to find the shirt I wanted him to wear; the need to comb Grace’s hair to hide the bald spot she created in front last month; and me having to cobble...

To be: a grateful wife

November 29, 2007

A big “check” on this one today. I often focus on the things I wish Mark did differently or just did at all, but nights like last night remind me of how lucky I am. I’ve been feeling a little down lately and was last night after the kids’ bedtime. (I think bedtime really drains all my energy, even when the kids are good.) I was vegging at the computer and Mark unloaded the dishwasher, straightened up the living room and kitchen and brought me a mug of hot chocolate. Then he massaged my shoulders and back while we...
