Kid-length tidbits about the kids

September 10, 2009

I don’t seem to have the attention span to write an entire coherent post these days. I just have too much going on in my head I guess. That’s why I like Twitter. I can just post one little thought without expanding on it. So I’ve been more active there than here lately. I added a feed of my most recent posts to the sidebar of this blogger, for those of you scared to venture on to the actual Twitter Web site So here’s a smattering of kid-related things. More to come on other subjects: I’ve been wanting to...

Kiddie restaurant

August 27, 2009

Grace: I’d like some water please. Can I have my menu right away?Connor: Yeah.Connor: Here’s your tacos and water.Grace: I don’t want tacos. I want popcorn please.Connor: K.Grace: Hey, this isn’t water. I want real water please.Connor: Here’s real water.Grace: And can I have some chicken nuggets and french fries for dessert please? This went on for awhile and then they decided to move all the clean laundry from one laundry basket into a big, open umbrella and pack a bunch of random stuff in a small cooler. I love when they entertain themselves/each other without my intervention or...

Kids say the darndest things

July 24, 2009

The kids are always saying things that make us laugh and I never get to the computer fast enough to pass them along. Here are a few recent ones that Mark and I were able to remember. It’s a good day to dwell on these because they have been very trying this week. Grace, trying to weasel her way into a trip to the store with me: “You’re so beautiful. I don’t want to take my eyes off you.” Connor, after being disciplined or told no or randomly when he’s tired: “That’s not fair.” Grace, shortly after Lauren left...

“Go inside and you can have a Popsicle”

“Go inside and you can have a Popsicle”

Connor was running around naked in Grandma and Grandpa’s backyard. Soon he ran in yelling “posicle, posicle” and I told him he couldn’t have one because it was almost lunch time (and there were no Popsicles in the house). Grace came in saying “I knew I could get him inside.” She knew I wanted him to come in for a pull-up so she told Connor he could have a Popsicle if he came in. She was so proud of herself. I told her I knew she was trying to help but she can’t lie to get him to do...

Connor’s move to a toddler bed

Connor’s move to a toddler bed

Connor started crawling out of his crib in the mornings last week. So yesterday, while Grace and I were at the Clothes Closet, Mark turned Connor’s crib into a toddler bed. He called Connor into the room, and Connor said “oh, Daddy, it clean” before noticing the bed. Then “wooooah.” He proudly showed Grace and me the bed when we got home, then brought several books out and sat in bed to “read” them. Grace took a picture of the bed for you all: The husband reported, at 6:30 p.m.: Connor started hugging my leg when I was making...

To do: Share Grace’s artwork

To do: Share Grace’s artwork

I spent a good chunk of tonight scanning all the artwork I have been able to find that I have saved of Grace’s. I’ll continue to add to this slideshow as she does more. I’m trying to figure out a why for it to display the description and dates but haven’t found a way yet. They are in chronological order. And while I was doing that, Connor was nicely coloring, and on nothing he wasn’t supposed to:

Half-baked thoughts that didn’t make it into their own posts

September 21, 2008

I took “clean” versions of my “blech” pictures the next day but never got around to posting them and now don’t feel like it. I did get it all done though. The one setback was Connor dumping half his lunch (macaroni, peas and chocolate cake) on the floor after I swept. I sent the kids outside to play while cleaning the kitchen. Grace kept coming in and asking to help. Finally I said “why do you want to help me sweep so much?” She said “So it will go faster and you can play with me.” How can you...

Yet another transition

September 12, 2008

Grace started preschool this week. She goes 12 to 2:30 Mondays and Wednesdays. What will I do with all this time? My plan is to spend half the time getting things done and half the time relaxing. Connor went down for a nap as soon as we got home Wednesday, and Mark headed for school. It was so quiet. I cleaned out my e-mail inbox and returned some long-neglected messages. I made lunch and ate it while watching a rerun of Project Runway, which I’ve been watching at Lauren’s urging (and liking but shhh don’t tell her.) I was...

Top ten reasons I love the State Fair

Top ten reasons I love the State Fair

Since becoming a mom (and getting my anxiety under control), I’m not as bothered by large crowds as I used to be. They still annoy me but no longer keep me from enjoying certain things, like the Great Minnesota Get Together. I’m glad, because if I had stayed away Tuesday, I would have missed: 10. Deep-fried cheese curds 9. Grace making sand art 8. Laughing at Mark for getting a stomachache from drinking a half-gallon of milk at the all-you-can-drink booth 7. Pronto pups 6. Grace loving the rides on the Kidway 5. Deep-fried cheese curds 4. Tom Thumb...

Cake is yummy in the tummy

Cake is yummy in the tummy

Mark made this neat cake on Tuesday, just for fun. Grace and Mark each had a small piece that night. (I ate the scraps from the star cut-out). The next morning, Connor went downstairs while Grace and I watched TV in the bedroom for a while. He does that often and just putters around till we come down. He was down there maybe 15 minutes before Mark returned home and saw this: Doesn’t he look proud of his accomplishment?
