Zoo Boo was exhausting

I was going to blog about Zoo Boo at Como Park tonight but I’m just too exhausted. “What are you talkin’ about Ma? I’m still wide awake.”

Supercook.com & I make ‘best soup in the world’

Supercook.com & I make ‘best soup in the world’

Yesterday I had to figure out what our nanny was going to serve the kids for dinner. And once again, my fridge looked like this. (I need to have a better plan for regular grocery shopping. I was using cobornsdelivers.com but am out of discount codes. I get more – and so do you – for referring friends so let me know if you want a referral.) Despite this empty fridge, the freezer is quite full of meat. So I picked one and decided to figure out what to do with it. I went to supercook.com and typed in...

An amazing time at Afton Apple

An amazing time at Afton Apple

We had planned to meet friends to do a corn maze this weekend but they were unable to join us. I was tired and cranky and thought about calling off our outing too. But I am so glad I didn’t. We went to Afton Apple and had an amazing time. We started out with Phase I, the easiest of the three. It was pretty much impossible to get lost in it, and it was a good way to get the kids familiar with the corn maze and gauge how they would do with the next phase. They took turns...

Little breaks bring a little balance

Welcome to the October Carnival of Natural Parenting: Staying Centered, Finding Balance This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Code Name: Mama and Hobo Mama. This month our participants have shared how they stay centered and find balance. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants. *** This month’s Carnival of Natural Parenting asks how we stay centered and find balance rather than focusing our entire lives on our children. Seeing as how this is my first blog post in more than three...

Is coffee good for big boys?

I bought a new coffee maker and was setting it up this morning when this happened: Connor: Can I have my own cup of coffee? Me: Coffee isn’t good for little boys. Connor: Is it good for big boys? Me: I guess so. Connor: Well you just called me the wrong direction. I’m not little. I’m big. Me: Oh, OK. Connor: So can I have my own cup of coffee? I gave him a mug with about a half shot of espresso and a bunch of steamed coconut milk. Connor, with mug: Do I look like a mommy now?...

On Kindergarten, late buses and knowing what class you’re in

On Kindergarten, late buses and knowing what class you’re in

On Grace’s first day of school, I waited in our driveway for the bus to arrive. I went out there about 15 minutes after school let out. The midday bus is only for her half-day kindergarten class so I thought it wouldn’t take as long as the normal bus, which takes nearly a half-hour to arrive. (I didn’t know for sure because the school gives us no information whatsoever about the logistics of school.) After about a half-hour, I started to worry. I called the school, which confirmed that she got on the bus. The secretary called the person...

Making connections and breaking my blog conference writer’s block

Making connections and breaking my blog conference writer’s block

I’ve been rolling right along, posting every day this month (except my first day at work) as part of Tina’s September Blog-A-Thon. Then comes the first Minnesota Blogger Conference on Saturday. And two days without posts. And me sitting here staring at a blank screen. I think I’m just overwhelmed with thoughts and don’t know where to begin. I always seem to have an easier time writing about insignificant things like rearranging utensils than about big things like giving birth or taking a trip (I still haven’t written about our awesome trip to Door County this summer). I live-blogged...
