An average rainy day at our house

rain

I wanted to experiment with a tool called Storify, which creates a visual story out of various things on the web. I documented a rainy day at our house — what we did, what the kids said, etc. — to test it out. View “Rainy day in Minnesota” on Storify

Homemade watermelon yogurt popsicles

Homemade watermelon yogurt popsicles

Connor asked to make popsicles out of some of the giant watermelon we bought recently. I have a book of popsicle recipes and have never made one. So I pulled it out and found one that included watermelon. And luckily I had all the ingredients (or suitable substitutes) on hand. So we chopped and blended and filled the molds. Then Connor put a few not fully blended chunks in for extra texture. And into the freezer for six hours. Connor loved them. Grace didn’t care for them. I don’t like watermelon but I tried a bite. I didn’t care...

Picturing my life as a (sort of) stay at home mom

Went to pick up drops for Grace’s pink eye. I was alone because my father-in-law is here doing work on our bathroom so I got to stop for a coffee on the way. Tried to get Connor to stop antagonizing the neighbors and vice versa because Connor was cranky and unwilling to go out and play. Washed diapers and then hung them out to dry. Climbed the stairs 1000 times to answer the call of “Mooooooooom” from kids on different floors. Why do we teach them that word? Folded a giant pile of laundry. Yes, I did get all...

I guess it’s time to brush the toddler’s teeth

Confession time: I’ve never brushed Ellie’s teeth. She’s 17 months. But obviously she has learned how it works from watching other people. Today she saw Grace’s toothbrush stuck to the sink and pointed to it. I figured she could play with it for a while. I’m not afraid of germs. As soon as I gave it to her, she opened the cabinet and pulled out the toothpaste. She sat down and did this: And then this: So I grabbed the brush and brushed her teeth a little to show her the brushing motion. Then she took the brush back...

A lot of things have been going on in our household that took my attention away from blogging but I’m hoping to be back to regular posting now. So here’s what’s new: 1. I was pregnant. Then I wasn’t. A day after we announced the pregnancy via the blog and facebook, we found out the heart had stopped beating. I was nearly 12 weeks along but the baby died at 10.5 weeks. We never found out whether “Sonic” was going to be a boy or a girl. A couple of times since then, someone has mentioned going to a...

Best thrift stores in the Twin Cities

I’ve long been loyal to Neighbors’ thrift store but I visited Valu Thrift Center in St. Paul’s Sun Ray shopping center today on my friend Kate’s recommendation. I thought I died and went to thrift heaven. I was almost to overwhelmed to start shopping. Almost. First of all, this place is huge. Second, they have an extensive selection of pretty much everything. Third, and most important, everything is really really really well organized and displayed with sizes and prices clearly marked. I went in looking for a rain jacket for Grace and shoes for Connor. I only liked one...

Two truths and a lie – the reveal

Two truths and a lie – the reveal

On Friday, a participated in a blog hop where we each posted two true things about ourselves and one line. Mine were: 1. I know how to tap dance and twirl baton. 2. I am thinking of shutting down this blog. 3. I last drank coffee five days ago. Many of you thought No. 3 must be false because how could I have written a coherent post on such a lack of caffeine? Well, here’s the kicker. It may have been coherent but it was INHERENTLY WRONG! Because all three of my statements were true. HAHA. Blog hop fail!...
