My soul

Practicing my religion, scrapbooking, blogging, reading and having fun are among the things I do to keep my soul soaring.

Can I part with them?

January 11, 2008

As I’ve been reading more and thinking more about reading lately, I’ve been pondering my collection of Stephen King paperbacks. I rarely read anything by King anymore. I have read maybe half of my collection and will certainly not re-read those that I have finished in the next decade. They take up at least one whole book shelf (I’m pretty sure there are more in a box somewhere) and I don’t have a lot of bookshelf space to spare. So what is the sense of this hoarding? It’s silly, right? But I’ve had them for almost half my lifetime...

To do: make New Year’s resolutions

January 1, 2008

I’ve had a request to blog about reasonable resolutions. I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions but the idea of them is keeping with the theme of this blog so I’ll give it a shot. I’m not going to try to lose 20 pounds or write the great American novel or eat vegetables with every meal. So let’s give these a try: Read two fiction and two nonfiction books Go to the gym at least once a week Finish five scrapbook pages a month Send birthday cards … before each person’s birthday Start composting I just realized those fall...

To do: READ

December 29, 2007

If I got nothing done all day but read a good book, it would be a good day. Well, except for the fact that I’d have to bind and gag that nagging person in my head that says “you didn’t get anything done today.” I’ve been keeping a list of books to read for as long as I can remember. And I haven’t read a book off of it in as long as I can remember. I have this list on paper somewhere. But more and more I find paper so 20th century so I started keeping a list...

Time flies when you’re having fun

December 23, 2007

I can’t believe it’s Dec. 22. Wasn’t Connor’s birthday just the other day?! We’ve all been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to blog about it. But for the next 20 minutes, my only work-related task is to stare at the wire feed, which is moving slower than a snail, in molasses, in January, after it died. I could learn how to work Mark’s new mp3 player that his wonderful wife gave him for his birthday, but I forgot to bring a battery. I could order the last few Christmas presents I need (which I don’t need...

To do: another stab at shopping

December 5, 2007

The kids and I went to Wal-mart today (yes, I said Wal-mart; it’s not your imagination). We headed out as soon as Connor woke from his nap and we all had lunch. Yet he already seemed tired and cranky by the time we got to the car. Wake up, eat breakfast, take a nap, eat lunch, want another nap — that’s my boy! It took me awhile to scrape off the car, as that one hadn’t been driven since Saturday’s snowstorm. Connor was crying most of that time but settled down once we got moving. On the way there,...

To do: Christmas shopping

To do: Christmas shopping

Today’s big to-do item was to buy Christmas gifts at the Mall of America. After being up 2:30-5 with Grace this morning, I knew I needed to get out of the house. I thought I’d kill four birds with one stone — get out, do something Grace enjoys, buy gifts, and find a winter coat for Connor (I’m going to return one I bought for him Friday because it’s too hard to zip). I printed out a list of gift ideas for several people. I packed the diaper bag, got the kids into coats and headed out. I was...

Welcome to my blog

November 25, 2007

I’ve been thinking about trying out this blogging thing for quite a while. I routinely read several that I enjoy and I thought it might be fun to try it out. But as I am the recovering procrastinator, it took me awhile to get to it. Along with having procrastination tendencies, I’m also indecisive — a bad combination. I debated whether I had anything worth saying that I don’t already share elsewhere, what my theme should be, what my name should be. Today I’m finally taking the plunge. I decided it will be about all the things I strive...
