Two truths and a lie – the reveal

Two truths and a lie – the reveal

On Friday, a participated in a blog hop where we each posted two true things about ourselves and one line. Mine were: 1. I know how to tap dance and twirl baton. 2. I am thinking of shutting down this blog. 3. I last drank coffee five days ago. Many of you thought No. 3 must be false because how could I have written a coherent post on such a lack of caffeine? Well, here’s the kicker. It may have been coherent but it was INHERENTLY WRONG! Because all three of my statements were true. HAHA. Blog hop fail!...

Two truths and a lie (blog hop)

February 24, 2011

I’m doing a fun little blog hop designed for readers to get to know a few random things about bloggers and bloggers to get to know each other better. So here are three quick “facts” about me. Guess in the comments which is false. I’ll reveal the answer on Monday. 1. I know how to tap dance and twirl baton. 2. I am thinking of shutting down this blog. 3. I last drank coffee five days ago.

Making connections and breaking my blog conference writer’s block

Making connections and breaking my blog conference writer’s block

I’ve been rolling right along, posting every day this month (except my first day at work) as part of Tina’s September Blog-A-Thon. Then comes the first Minnesota Blogger Conference on Saturday. And two days without posts. And me sitting here staring at a blank screen. I think I’m just overwhelmed with thoughts and don’t know where to begin. I always seem to have an easier time writing about insignificant things like rearranging utensils than about big things like giving birth or taking a trip (I still haven’t written about our awesome trip to Door County this summer). I live-blogged...

‘People on twitter know everything first’

June 3, 2010

Molly asked today if the ubiquity of social media has made us less social. Has putting everything out there for everyone lessened the connections with those who were once among the privileged few to know everything about us? I could tell you all about the friends I’ve made through social media but she was referring more-so to people we already knew and whether we’ve lost touch because we are to immersed in social media to make one-on-one connections. I can’t decide but three examples came to mind right away, falling across the whole spectrum of possible answers. It has...

Growing in happiness

Growing in happiness

What perfect timing! Two people I follow wrote great posts today about happiness. Just as I was ready to launch this new site, inspired by “The Happiness Project.” Then I see that they wrote these posts as part of a blog carnival, which today and tomorrow is about happiness. So I’m jumping in. When I began blogging in November 2007, I had no idea what I was doing. I have since learned a lot about blogging and about myself. I had decided, according to my first post, to write about “all the things I strive to do and be,”...

Fair vs. realistic in jobseeking

April 8, 2010

First, thanks to everyone who commented on my denied a job interview post, especially those of you whom I didn’t previously know. I enjoyed reading all your opinions. Thanks to those who said here and on facebook that you would hire me. Now I just need one of you to actually be able to do that. To those who said I’m probably better off not working there: I happen to know this is a good place to work and really values a work-life balance. And I don’t think they were put off by me being a mother. However, the...

Perceptions matter

April 6, 2010

Note: This was written when my blog was called “Recovering Procrastinator” and was part of the impetus for me changing to the format and name the blog has now. I got an interview for a job I was really interested in. It sounded like a really interesting position that fit my skills well. The pay was good, benefits were great and it was in St. Paul. Pretty much everything I could ask for. Twenty minutes after receiving the information about who I’d be interviewing with, I got a call. I couldn’t get to the phone, and I listened to...

Fed some starving children. And my soul.

January 20, 2010
Fed some starving children. And my soul.

Last night was amazing. I joined 39 other Minnesota bloggers and a host of other volunteers to pack 13,824 meals at Feed My Starving Children. These chicken and rice meals will soon be sent to Haiti. They are enough to feed 38 kids for a year. They cost only 17 cents each and took an hour to put together. I can’t speak as eloquently on the importance of this as Trish and Molly did so go read their posts when you’re done here, and I’ll move on to what the night meant to me personally. The moment I heard...

to do: write a blog post

April 28, 2008

I don’t have anything specific to talk about but I’ve been scolded for not blogging often enough and since I almost never blog on Monday or Tuesday, I should write something today, eh? Let’s see, what am I thinking about: My feet hurt. They hurt a lot, especially when I’m tired. I love to have them massaged. They never got sore like this until I was pregnant with Connor. Darn kid. My eyes are dry. I should stop trying to wear contacts to work. I got a new kind and they work well outside of work but the computers...

Welcome to my blog

November 25, 2007

I’ve been thinking about trying out this blogging thing for quite a while. I routinely read several that I enjoy and I thought it might be fun to try it out. But as I am the recovering procrastinator, it took me awhile to get to it. Along with having procrastination tendencies, I’m also indecisive — a bad combination. I debated whether I had anything worth saying that I don’t already share elsewhere, what my theme should be, what my name should be. Today I’m finally taking the plunge. I decided it will be about all the things I strive...
