to do: stock up on cereal

February 16, 2009

This week I’m stocking up on cereal as part of the drug store game. Here’s my plan: At Walgreens, buy 4 selected Kellogg’s cereals (on sale 4/$10), Get $3 Register Rewards. I’m getting two Rice Krispies and two Frosted Flakes using a $1/2 internet coupon from here and a $1.50/2 coupon from the Sunday ads.Total: $4.50 ($1.125 per box) At Cub, buy 10 selected General Mills products, get $10 off. Cheerios are on sale for $2.50 each. I have two $1.50 coupons from cub and a $1 coupon from the Sunday ads. (I was expecting a $1 coupon from...

to do: reduce paper clutter

February 11, 2009

My sister mentioned this as a blog idea a long time ago, but I never wrote it since I didn’t have a personal story to go with it. After reading this post and realizing that even the greenies don’t know about all these options, I decided maybe this info will be helpful to some of you even if it doesn’t come with a charming story . Here are some things you can do to reduce the junk mail you recieve: 1. To opt out of the pre-approved credit card solicitations, call 1-888-567-8688 or go to www.Optoutprescreen.com 2. You can...

to do: save money on “fixed” expenses

February 9, 2009

We’re looking for ways to lower our spending in these uncertain times. You know I’m already a coupon-clipper and Goodwill-shopper, so I want to try to lower or regular, monthly expenses so we don’t have to forgo as many of our occasional treats, like a Sunday lunch out for the family or a nice latte when I come to work grumpy. We already tackled cable. We switched from the digital starter package, which is what I consider to be the typical package most people have, to the basic cable plus family tier. We are still mourning the loss of...

and the winner is …

December 22, 2008

Marketing Mama with a guess of $24. The rest of you gave me WAY too much credit, or you haven’t bought a box of cereal in a decade! The actual price was $22.35 and the breakdown is: 6 General Mills cereals: $20 – $10 ECB – coupons for $1 and $.75 = $8.25Playtex: $7 – $2 Q = $5 (should have passed on this “deal”; generics at Target are cheaper)2 Kotex: $9 – $2 and $1.75 coupons = $4.252 Listerines: 2 for $9 – $4.50 RR – two $1 coupons = $2.502 Progressos: $2 – .50 Q = $1.50Ajax:...

This can be yours … if the price is right

This can be yours … if the price is right

I decided to do a blog giveaway. Let’s see how many comments we can get on this thread. These are my Walgreens/CVS deals for the week. It was all a good deal but not a ridiculously good deal (not $2 like Mark guessed). Whoever guesses the closest to what I paid for these items gets to have one item of your choice. Round your guess to the nearest dollar. In case you can’t tell, there are six boxes of GM cereal, two mouthwashes, one tube of toothpaste, a small bottle of Ajax dishsoap, two Progresso soups, one Sure deodorant,...

To do: move some place that requires no car ;)

To do: move some place that requires no car ;)

ok, this post is LONG overdue and just plain long but I promised to write it so you can all breathe easy now. We bought a Buick Rendezvous in April to replace my beloved Alero, which was in need of a new engine. Less than a week later, I had to pick Mark and Grace up from the grocery store because the key wouldn’t go into the ignition in the new Rendezvous. I was asleep when Mark called and it took me awhile to comprehend what was going on. I had a neighbor watch Connor because the LeSabre had...

Where did all the time go?

November 4, 2008

I decided at 9:30 Friday morning to head out to a friend’s house who wasn’t feeling well and needed a bit of company. How long do you think it took for me to: Shower Get myself and both kids dressed Pack a bag of stuff for the day (diapers, things for work, etc) Get shoes on everyone Stop at the pharmacy to pick up a prescription Drive 32 miles I’d have guessed that would require about 90 minutes, maybe a tiny bit more. Somehow we managed to make it there by 12:15. Yep, that’s two hours and 45 minutes....

Didn’t get my weekly deal fix

October 11, 2008

I didn’t make it to Walgreens/CVS this week. I have been cutting coupons and planning my trips on Sunday nights but I don’t yet have a routine for actually following through on those trip plans. I was going to get two tubes of toothpaste, a small box of tampons, five bars of soap and a bottle of coffeemate for 45 cents. Well, plus the tax on the pre-rebate prices so maybe more like $1.30. But still a good deal. But I didn’t make it, and I can’t go on my way home from work because I left my coupon...

Oh, the bargains! Be still my heart.

Oh, the bargains! Be still my heart.

This post was written a week ago but I finally can get the photos of the camera: Friday I did my grocery shopping — alone! — at Target and used lots of good coupons. I hit a CVS on Friday and then Walgreens on Saturday/Sunday (at midnight so I got last week’s deals, waited for the time change, then bought this week’s deals). I got four 12-packs of Pepsi and the stuff below for 54.70. It’s all worth about $150 though I’m not going to detail the breakdown this time. The only thing we probably won’t use is the...
