ZOINKS! Sometimes it all goes wrong

The TV interview I didn’t want to give

April 23, 2012

I got a call at work Thursday afternoon from a local TV station doing a segment about how mom bloggers will effect the presidential election. They were looking for someone from MinnMoms.com to speak on the topic. I consulted with my boss about whom we should send. He pulled me into the editor’s office and ambushed me. “You’re going to do it,” he said. The two of them came up with more reasons why I should than I came up with reasons why I shouldn’t. I took until the next morning to get a hold of the producer who...

Not tired, nope, not me

Not tired, nope, not me

In the three weeks since my last Not Me Monday, I have not been staying up too late watching the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. And I did not choke back tears during his farewell speech. This not being up late has not caused me to be overly tired every morning. Which means I did not: Keep Grace home from school one morning because nobody woke up until 8:30. Take Grace to school a half hour late another morning after hitting snooze four times and being woken at 8:15 by Grace. Let the kids lay in my bed and...

Frazzled mom, lots of poop, naked baby

January 11, 2010

Ellie had her two-week check-up on Friday. (Yes, she was four weeks old.) And Connor had his three-year check-up, or so I thought. We just barely made it to the clinic in time for Connor’s 3:30 appointment, after Grace’s haircut took longer than expected. After a 15-minute wait in line, we checked in and I prepared for the snotty “your appointment has lapsed” response I got at our last visit, when we were 15 minutes late. The receptionist was very nice, but it turns out I had scheduled Connor for Wednesday instead of Friday. I must have clicked the...

Not me! Monday

Not me! Monday

It’s “Not me! Monday” over at MckMama. And since it has NOT been 17 days since my last post, I don’t need any easy post like this to ease back into things. I did NOT let Connor eat two ice cream cones (sans ice cream) and a sucker for breakfast because I was too tired/lazy to chase him down and take them away. I did NOT let Grace go to school having eaten nothing but Wheat Thins because she never asked for lunch. I did NOT let Connor eat popcorn off the living room floor as his lunch while...

The big ol’ jinx

August 27, 2009

I should not have posted that last bit have happiness. The rest of the day was, well, not pleasant. There was yelling, crying, slamming doors, pleas for help from daddy … and the kids weren’t happy either. ———— To do update: We never made it to church but I decide to wait on all those festival tasks till after a meeting we are having Tuesday. I did get all the insurance stuff taken care of. That’s a major stressor gone. We’re plugging away at the rest.

One of those days

August 20, 2009

It’s noon. I’m in my robe. I haven’t brushed my teeth or hair. I ate a bowl of cereal but haven’t drank coffee, which I want, or water, which I need. I slept well last night but I’m exhausted. Maybe I got too much sleep because I laid in bed until 10 when the kids were sick of their TV shows and asking for food? My plan was to go to the bank, the Clothes Closet (which is one its last day of its season-ending clearance) and the library (at Grace’s request.) But now it’s raining again, which makes...

Things NOT to do

April 9, 2009

This week I learned not to: Let your 2-year-old go anywhere near your external hard drive. It doesn’t take much to make them stop working. Keep all your digital photos on your hard drive – and nowhere else. ‘Nuff said. Leave the canister of sugar (even closed and latched) in your 4-year-old’s reach and then leave the room. She CAN open it. Let your husband clean up the mess hours after your 2-year-old dumps a bowl of sugar on the bathroom floor, including down the heat register. He’ll get grumpy. Neglect your blog for a month. You’ll get grumpy....

A plan-B birthday

November 10, 2008

The plan for my birthday yesterday was to scrapbook with some friends and family at Archiver’s in Woodbury and then go to the nearby Boston’s for dinner with the whole fam. I discovered the night before the all Archiver’s stores were having a holiday event. My mom said they probably would still have half the workroom open but told me to call in the morning to check. I didn’t. We got there and it was closed. So we made a plan B: We did our shopping there and then headed to the community room at my sister’s loft in...
