Looks like your soil could use some enhancement. In the Fall you can loosen it with a shovel (or till it completely under) then top it with piles of leaves. I do this each year, covering it with tarps, or something that will prevent the leaves from blowing away. In the Spring, I plant right through the leaf mulch, and during the growing season I will compost all my vegetable scraps right onto the soil. Each year I repeat this process, and the soil has become very fertile and rich with time. Over the growing season, if you mulch on top of the soil, you will also create a barrier that retains moisture, which keeps the soil from becoming so hard and dry. You can use grass clippings for that.
I do love the photo of Connor peering at the plants. So intent!
I can’t really do any of the fall stuff because it’s a community garden plot. Supposedly they are going to do some of that. It just started this year, so I think they’re still figuring things out. If we rent it again next year (which I plan to) I’m going to do more to prepare it properly in the spring.
Connor is so cute. He asks if we can go watch the garden grow.
Is that basil in the one picture? It looks soooo much better than mine!
Yes, it’s basil. That has done the best of everything we’ve planted.
Love the picture of him watching plants grow. Perfect poster for patience!
